Thai Health Promotion Foundation Clarifies Advertising Procurement Practices
The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) has addressed public concerns regarding its advertising procurement processes on public transport networks.
The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) has issued a formal clarification regarding its advertising practices following online speculation about how it secures space for public health campaigns, including those concerning e-cigarettes. Dr. Prakasit Kayasit, Deputy Manager of ThaiHealth, stated that the organization adheres strictly to the Comptroller General's Department regulations for all procurement activities.
Addressing claims that funds were funneled through third-party foundations rather than direct contracts, Dr. Prakasit confirmed that ThaiHealth procures advertising space directly from the Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM). This process ensures transparency and compliance with government procurement standards. The partnership facilitates health awareness campaigns across the MRT network, including Bangkok Pier locations and various transit pillars.
Notably, the agreement includes 18 additional advertising spaces on transit pillars provided at no extra cost for a 12-month period, intended to maximize public health messaging. For residents and travelers, this clarification confirms that the health-related advertisements seen throughout the transit system are part of an official, audited government-funded initiative. While the procurement process has been verified by ThaiHealth officials, the long-term impact of these specific campaigns on public health behavior remains a subject for future evaluation.
