Helicopters Deployed to Combat Peatland Fires in Nakhon Si Thammarat

According to Khaosod Online, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin has mobilized helicopter support to address ongoing wildfires in the Khuan Kreng peat swamp forest, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The fires, which have been reported intermittently since August 11, 2026, have proven difficult to contain due to low water levels in the peatland, which allow fires to smolder and reignite underground.

Reports from the Forest Fire Control and Operations Division (Protected Area Administration Office 5) indicate that multiple fires have occurred within the Bo Lor and Thale Noi non-hunting zones between August 11 and 14. To prevent further spread, a specialized helicopter (Resource No. 1106) was dispatched to the southern operations center on the morning of August 15 to conduct aerial surveillance and water drops.
