Three Arrested for Impersonating Immigration Officers in Rayong
Thai authorities have apprehended three individuals accused of posing as immigration officers to extort Chinese workers in Rayong province.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, three suspects have been arrested following allegations that they impersonated immigration officials to target Chinese laborers in the Ban Khai district of Rayong. The group reportedly coerced victims into purchasing 'charity tickets,' threatening them with official immigration inspections if they refused. There were also reports of missing property from residences visited by the group.
Police from the Nong Krap station, in coordination with Rayong Immigration investigators, tracked the suspects to a residence in the Bo Win sub-district of Chon Buri, where they were apprehended based on existing warrants. Authorities noted that the group had allegedly been involved in similar activities across Chon Buri province.
Pol. Col. Parinya Klinkesorn, spokesperson for Immigration Division 3, has issued a public warning to both Thai citizens and foreign residents. Officials advise that if individuals claiming to be immigration officers approach them, they should request to see official identification cards. If there is any doubt regarding the legitimacy of the officers, residents are encouraged to contact the relevant immigration office directly to verify their identity. It is also suggested that individuals record video footage of such encounters for safety. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to confirm the full extent of the group's activities and any additional victims.
