King Vajiralongkorn has elevated Phra Phrom Dilok to the rank of Somdet Phra Maha Wachirakhun Dilok, effective July 12, 2026.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Royal Gazette published a royal command on July 14, 2026, announcing the elevation of Phra Phrom Dilok to a new high-ranking ecclesiastical title. The monk, now officially titled Somdet Phra Maha Wachirakhun Dilok, serves as the abbot of Wat Sam Phraya, a royal monastery located in the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok.
Born Uean Klinsali on July 13, 1945, the 81-year-old monk has served 59 years in the monkhood. In addition to his role as abbot, he holds the position of Deputy Head of the Dhamma Field School for the Central Region. The royal decree, which took effect on July 12, 2026, also grants him the authority to appoint ten ecclesiastical aides.
