Heavy Rainfall and Storm Warnings Issued Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain across 28 provinces, with risks of flash floods and high waves in the Andaman Sea.
On August 14, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released a 24-hour weather forecast indicating that heavy rainfall will continue to affect various regions of Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, a monsoon trough passing through Myanmar and northern Thailand, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is driving these conditions.
Residents and travelers in 28 provinces should remain alert for potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes. The TMD specifically highlighted risks in the North and Northeast, including provinces such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Ubon Ratchathani. In Bangkok, there is a 60% chance of rain.
For those near the coast, the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing strong winds, with wave heights reaching 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The TMD advises small boats in the upper Andaman Sea to remain ashore and urges all mariners to exercise extreme caution.
