Thailand Weather Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Expected Through August 20
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a seven-day weather forecast warning of increased rainfall and potential flash floods across several regions.
According to a report from Khaosod Online, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has released a weather outlook for August 14–20, 2026, warning of significant rainfall across the country.
From August 14–17, heavy rain is expected in parts of the North, Northeast, and East due to a monsoon trough passing through upper Northern Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The situation is expected to intensify between August 18–20, as the monsoon trough shifts further south, leading to increased rainfall and heavy to very heavy downpours in the North and Northeast.
For residents and travelers, this weather pattern poses risks of flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing riverbanks. Additionally, the TMD notes that sea conditions in the upper Andaman Sea will remain rough, with wave heights reaching 2–3 meters through August 18.
While the forecast provides a clear outlook for the coming week, the exact intensity and specific locations of the heaviest rainfall may shift depending on the movement of the monsoon trough.
