SME D Bank Reports Significant Boost in Funding for Thai Small Businesses
Thailand's SME D Bank has facilitated over 27.7 billion baht in funding for small businesses between April and July 2026, aiming to strengthen the economic foundation.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME D Bank) has successfully increased capital access for local entrepreneurs. Managing Director Pichit Mitrawong stated that from April to July 2026, the bank provided over 27.7 billion baht in funding to 3,590 businesses. This initiative, aligned with directives from Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa, is intended to bolster the 'base of the pyramid' of the Thai economy.
The bank reports that this capital injection has generated approximately 127 billion baht in economic circulation and helped maintain over 81,000 jobs. Beyond immediate liquidity, the program aims to support the transition toward sustainable 'green' business practices.
For residents and expatriates, this development signals a concerted effort by the government to stabilize the local business ecosystem, which may lead to more resilient services and local markets. While the bank has highlighted these figures as a success in removing barriers to entry, it remains to be confirmed how these green business initiatives will specifically impact long-term operational standards for small enterprises. The bank continues to focus on its mandate to enhance the competitiveness of Thai SMEs through ongoing financial support.
