Thai Navy Intercepts Illegal Fuel Smuggling Vessel in Gulf of Thailand

On August 14, 2026, the Royal Thai Navy’s First Area Command announced the successful interception of a fuel smuggling operation in the upper Gulf of Thailand, often referred to as the 'Gulf of Kor.' According to Khaosod Online, the operation took place following a patrol by the HTMS T.115 on August 12, 2026.

Naval authorities identified a vessel named 'Riski Namchok 89,' which appeared to be a fishing boat but was anchored suspiciously off the coast of Phetchaburi province. Upon inspection, officials discovered that the vessel was being used to transport 60,000 liters of untaxed diesel fuel. Vice Admiral Chalermchai Suankaew, Commander of the First Area Command and Director of the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center (MECC) Area 1, confirmed that the vessel and its cargo have been seized. The case has been transferred to the Sattahip Police Station for further legal proceedings.
