Over 80 Victims File Complaint Against Labor Recruitment Firm for Alleged Fraud
More than 80 individuals have reported a labor recruitment agency to the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) for allegedly defrauding them of 20 million baht under the guise of overseas employment.
On August 14, 2026, over 80 victims filed a formal complaint with the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) at the Central Investigation Bureau, according to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand. The group alleges that a recruitment firm, identified only by the initial “G,” deceived them with promises of employment opportunities in fruit picking and product packaging in Canada and Finland.
According to a representative for the victims, the company appeared credible, operating through a Facebook page and conducting interviews at an office in the Don Mueang district, where a foreign national was present to assist with the screening process. Victims were reportedly instructed to pay various fees, including 12,500 baht for tourist visa processing, and were guided through document submission and biometric data collection. The company subsequently ceased operations and disappeared, leaving the victims with total losses estimated at over 20 million baht.
This incident serves as a reminder for residents and prospective migrant workers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with recruitment agencies that require upfront payments for visa processing or employment services. While the ATPD has received the complaints, the investigation is ongoing. It remains to be confirmed whether the company was legally registered and what specific legal actions will be taken against the individuals involved in the alleged scheme.
