Foreign Tourists Arrested After Evading Police Checkpoint in Phuket
Two foreign nationals were apprehended in Kathu, Phuket, following a high-speed chase and an assault on a police officer during a traffic stop.
On August 13, 2026, police in Kathu, Phuket, arrested two foreign nationals following a traffic incident. According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, officers from the Kathu Police Station were conducting a routine traffic checkpoint on Phra Barami Road when they signaled a black Honda motorcycle, registered in Nakhon Si Thammarat, to stop for a license inspection.
Instead of complying, the driver accelerated through the checkpoint. A police officer, Sergeant Siyos Yodrabam, pursued the motorcycle toward the Kathu Municipality area. During the pursuit, the passenger on the motorcycle allegedly kicked the officer’s vehicle, causing him to lose balance. The chase continued until the suspects were eventually intercepted near a duty-free shop. The individuals were taken into custody to face legal proceedings.
