Thailand Launches Low-Carbon Rice Initiative
The Rice Department has initiated a 1-million-rai low-carbon rice project, starting with a 2,000-rai pilot in Suphan Buri.
According to Prachachat Business, the Thai Rice Department has officially launched a new project aimed at cultivating 1 million rai of low-carbon rice. The initiative begins with a 2,000-rai pilot program in Suphan Buri province, involving 400 local farmers.
This project utilizes the 'Pathum Thani 1' rice variety and follows the 'Plant on Mother’s Day, Harvest on Father’s Day' concept. The program is designed to integrate private sector participation throughout the supply chain, covering everything from procurement and market connectivity to the implementation of a Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system. This infrastructure is intended to support future carbon credit trading while aiming to reduce production costs for farmers.
