Chiang Mai University Installs Dust-Free Classrooms for Local Childcare Centers
Chiang Mai University and the Friends in Need (of Pa) Volunteers Foundation have donated dust-free classrooms to two childcare centers in San Kamphaeng district to combat PM 2.5 pollution.
On Thursday, August 13, 2026, Chiang Mai University (CMU) officially handed over specialized dust-free classrooms to two childcare centers in the San Kamphaeng district of Chiang Mai province: the On Tai Subdistrict Municipality Childcare Center and the Buak Khang Subdistrict Municipality Childcare Center.
The initiative, led by Professor Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, Chairman of the CMU Council and representative of the Friends in Need (of Pa) Volunteers Foundation, aims to create 'Safe Zones' for young children. By providing filtered, clean air environments, the project seeks to protect children from the health risks associated with PM 2.5 particulate matter, which frequently affects Northern Thailand.
For residents and long-term visitors, this development highlights the ongoing regional efforts to mitigate the impact of seasonal air pollution on vulnerable populations. While these classrooms provide a localized solution for students, the broader effectiveness of such infrastructure in reducing overall exposure during peak smog seasons remains to be seen.
