The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall, flash floods, and rough seas across 21 provinces due to a monsoon trough and strong southwest monsoon winds.
On August 14, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather alert for 21 provinces, warning of heavy rainfall covering approximately 60% of these areas. According to Khaosod Online, the weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing through Myanmar, upper Laos, and upper Vietnam, combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents and travelers in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant against flash floods and forest runoff, particularly those near foothills, waterways, and low-lying areas. The TMD specifically highlighted the risk of overflowing banks in the Northeast.
Marine conditions are also impacted, with the upper Andaman Sea experiencing waves between 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The TMD has advised mariners to exercise extreme caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.
