Former Olympic gold medalist Somjit Jongjohor has issued a public clarification regarding missing funds intended for fellow boxer Manus Boonjumnong, confirming the prison system was not involved.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 13, 2026, former Olympic gold medalist Somjit Jongjohor has addressed a misunderstanding regarding financial assistance intended for fellow Olympic hero Manus Boonjumnong. Somjit previously suggested that money sent to Manus had failed to reach him, leading to public confusion regarding prison procedures.
In a video statement, the 51-year-old former boxer apologized to the Bangkok Remand Prison, clarifying that the prison authorities were not responsible for the missing funds. Somjit explained that he and other members of the boxing community had entrusted the money to an acquaintance who claimed they were visiting the facility. However, upon speaking with Manus and his wife, Somjit learned that the funds never reached the intended recipient. Somjit emphasized that the issue lies with the intermediary, stating, "You have to find out where the money was dropped along the way and who has it."
For residents and visitors, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of using official, verified channels when attempting to provide support or services to individuals in custody.
