Thailand Launches Proactive Strategy to Boost Fruit Exports to 860 Billion Baht
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is implementing a new initiative to elevate Thai fruit quality and market reach, aiming for a revenue target of 860 billion baht.
On August 13, 2026, the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives announced a strategic push to enhance the competitiveness of Thai agricultural products in high-value markets. Deputy Minister Piyarat Tiyapairat stated that the initiative aims to move beyond simple awareness campaigns, focusing instead on creating direct market opportunities for farmers. The goal is to ensure consumers can access high-quality Thai fruit while building confidence in the standards and unique identity of local produce.
Anchalee Suwajittanont, Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, explained that the department is launching proactive promotional projects to connect producers directly with consumers. These efforts emphasize premium, modern branding to increase the value of Thai fruits, particularly various durian varieties. The strategy also seeks to address logistical challenges, such as the over-concentration of produce distribution during peak harvest seasons.
For residents and travelers, this initiative may lead to more consistent availability of premium-grade fruits and potentially more organized agricultural festivals or markets. While the government has set an ambitious revenue target of 860 billion baht, the long-term success of these distribution and quality-control measures remains to be confirmed as the program scales. The ministry intends for these efforts to provide a concrete increase in income for farmers through improved market integration.
