Security Heightened at Phrae Schools Following Online Threat
Authorities in Phrae province have increased security measures after a 19-year-old with a psychiatric history was detained for allegedly posting a shooting threat in a school's open chat group.
On August 13, 2026, Phrae Governor Somchai Lertprasittiphan convened an urgent meeting with school administrators following reports of a violent threat made against a prominent school in the province. According to Khaosod Online, the incident began on the night of August 12, when students and parents discovered a message in an open chat group threatening a shooting at the school.
In response, local authorities have detained a 19-year-old man for questioning, noting that he has a history of psychiatric treatment. Dr. Rung-arun Pongkan, Director of the Phrae Secondary Educational Service Area Office, has coordinated with relevant agencies to implement strict surveillance and safety protocols for students, teachers, and staff. While the school remains open and students are attending classes, security patrols have been increased to reassure the community.
For residents and visitors, this situation highlights a period of heightened vigilance in the area. While the immediate threat is being managed by law enforcement, the investigation into the suspect's intent and the potential for further security adjustments remains ongoing. Authorities have emphasized that safety measures will be systematically applied across all schools in the district to prevent future incidents. The situation is currently stable, but parents and students are advised to remain cautious as the investigation proceeds.
