Thai Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Warning
Thailand's weather bureau has warned of continued heavy rainfall across four regions, urging residents and travelers to remain vigilant against flash floods and rough seas.
On August 13, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather advisory for the next 24 hours, forecasting heavy rainfall across the Northern, Upper Northeastern, Central, and Eastern regions of Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, this weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing through Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to exercise caution regarding potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near mountain slopes. The TMD specifically highlighted risks in provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Nan, Tak, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan.
Maritime conditions are also affected, with the upper Andaman Sea experiencing waves between 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The TMD has advised mariners to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are urged to remain ashore.
