Thailand Extends Diesel Price Subsidy Through Mid-September
The Energy Policy Administration Committee has approved a 31-day extension of diesel price discounts, funded by refinery surplus profits.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Energy Policy Administration Committee (EPPO) has officially approved a new measure to lower diesel prices. Minister of Energy Eknat Prompan announced that 4.475 billion baht will be drawn from surplus refinery profits to subsidize the cost of B0, B7, and B20 diesel fuels.
This subsidy will provide a discount of 2.40 baht per liter at the refinery level for a 31-day period, effective from August 16 to September 15, 2026. The decision follows an analysis of refinery costs from July 2026, which identified a total surplus of approximately 9.735 billion baht among the six major refinery operators.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this measure is intended to stabilize fuel costs at the pump during the specified period. While the government has secured the funding to maintain this discount for the next month, the final impact on retail prices at individual service stations remains subject to market conditions and operational adjustments. It is currently unclear how fuel pricing will be adjusted once this 31-day subsidy period concludes on September 15, 2026.
