Thailand Revives National Industrial Committee to Boost New S-Curve Sectors
Deputy Prime Minister Supajee Suthumpun has reconvened the National Industrial Committee after a four-year hiatus to prioritize high-tech industrial growth and domestic supply chains.
On August 13, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthumpun chaired the first meeting of the National Industrial Committee (NIC) in four years. The session focused on revitalizing Thailand’s industrial strategy by fostering 'New S-Curve' sectors, including biotechnology, digital technology, AI, modern automotive, medical industries, and defense.
According to Khaosod Online, the government aims to strengthen domestic production bases and increase the use of local materials and services to better navigate global economic and technological shifts. A key component of this strategy involves the 'Made in Thailand' (MiT) policy, which seeks to attract major international players like Toyota to expand their investments within the country. The committee is currently working on integrating budgets and defining a roadmap to support these high-tech industries, such as bioenergy, semiconductors, and photonics.
