Thailand Announces Electricity Rate Reduction Starting September 2026
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved a new electricity rate structure, lowering the average cost for all consumer types to 3.86 baht per unit.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has officially approved a new progressive rate structure for residential electricity users. As announced by ERC Secretary-General and spokesperson Poonpat Leesombatpaiboon, the average electricity rate for all consumer categories will decrease by 9 satang per unit, dropping from 3.95 baht to 3.86 baht (excluding VAT).
This adjustment follows a review of the progressive rate structure and the definition of residential users, which underwent a public consultation process. The new base rate for residential users will be 3.69 baht per unit, down from the current 3.78 baht. When combined with the automatic tariff adjustment (Ft) of 16.23 satang per unit for the September–December 2026 period, the final average rate is set at 3.86 baht per unit.
For residents and long-term visitors in Thailand, this reduction may lead to lower monthly utility bills starting with the September 2026 billing cycle. While this change applies to residential meters, the specific impact on individual households may vary based on consumption levels and the specific meter type installed. It remains to be confirmed how these changes will be reflected on individual utility bills once the new cycle begins in September.
