BOI and Japanese Business Leaders Discuss Continued Investment Expansion
Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) met with JETRO and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce to reinforce Japan's commitment to maintaining and expanding production bases in Thailand.
On August 13, 2026, the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) held discussions with representatives from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC) in Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, BOI Secretary-General Narit Therdsteerasukdi met with JETRO Bangkok President Ichiro Abe and JCC President Hiroyasu Kondo to address the future of Japanese investment in the country.
Data presented during the meeting highlighted that between 2021 and the first half of 2026, Japanese firms submitted 1,380 investment applications in Thailand, totaling over 396 billion baht. This meeting aimed to solidify Japan's role as a key economic partner and ensure the continued expansion of their production bases.
For residents and expatriates, this ongoing investment suggests a stable outlook for the industrial and service sectors, which often correlates with job creation and infrastructure development. However, the outlook is not without caution. A recent survey of 504 Japanese companies operating in Thailand revealed a cautious stance regarding the short-term economy, with the business sentiment index (DI) dropping to -6 from 0 in the previous half-year period.
While the commitment to long-term investment remains strong, the immediate economic climate remains a point of observation. It remains to be seen how these companies will adjust their short-term strategies in response to the current economic indicators.
