Democrat Party Investigates Alleged Assault Involving Senior MP
The Democrat Party is reviewing allegations that Deputy Leader Chaichana Dejdecho assaulted a police officer in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
On August 13, 2026, Sakoltee Phattiyakul, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Democrat Party, announced that the party will provide a formal response within one to two days regarding allegations against Chaichana Dejdecho. Chaichana, also a party-list MP and deputy leader overseeing the southern region, has been accused of assaulting a deputy superintendent of the Thung Yai Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
Sakoltee acknowledged that the incident has negatively impacted the party's public image. He noted that party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has requested a thorough review of the facts before taking any disciplinary action under party regulations. While Chaichana has reportedly acknowledged the charges, the party is currently awaiting further details from all involved parties.
Sakoltee also addressed speculation regarding potential political motives behind the case, noting that both the MP and the police officer had initially denied any violent altercation occurred, only for a formal complaint to be filed a day later. For residents and visitors, this situation highlights an ongoing internal political investigation. While the incident is currently a matter of legal and party procedure, it serves as a reminder of the high-profile nature of political conduct in Thailand. Further clarity is expected as the Democrat Party concludes its internal review.
