Authorities Seize Contraband and Cash in Yarang Raid
Security forces in Pattani province discovered over 2.4 million illicit cigarettes, firearms, and 18.7 million baht in cash during a raid on a suspected property.
On August 13, 2026, a joint task force led by the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Command conducted a search of a residence in Krado, Yarang District, Pattani Province. The operation, which included police, military, customs officials, and the Central Institute of Forensic Science, was part of a government initiative to combat illicit activities and security threats in Thailand's southern border provinces.
According to Khaosod Online, the raid resulted in the seizure of approximately 2,452,680 illicit cigarettes, three handguns with ammunition, and 18,759,000 baht in cash. A man identified as the homeowner, along with two other individuals, was present during the search.
For residents and travelers in the region, this operation highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to disrupt illegal supply chains and shadow economies in the deep south. While the seizure is significant, the investigation is currently in its early stages. Authorities are now working to expand the scope of the inquiry to identify and apprehend members of the broader network associated with these items. It remains to be confirmed how these goods were distributed and whether the suspects are linked to larger organized crime syndicates.
