Korat Seafood Restaurateur Distributes 2.5 Tons of Durian in Merit-Making Event
A popular seafood restaurant owner in Nakhon Ratchasima gave away 2.5 tons of durian to the public at the Thao Suranari Monument to fulfill a vow and give back to the community.
On August 13, 2026, a significant crowd gathered at the Thao Suranari (Ya Mo) Monument in Nakhon Ratchasima, commonly known as Korat, to receive free durian. According to Khaosod Online, Mr. Anuwat Narong, the owner of the well-known local seafood establishment 'Pom Kung Pen,' distributed 2.5 tons of Monthong durian to the public.
Each recipient was provided with one durian, with individual fruits weighing over two kilograms. The total value of the donated fruit was estimated at nearly 300,000 baht. Mr. Anuwat stated that the initiative served two purposes: to give back to the customers who support his business and to fulfill a personal vow made to the Thao Suranari Monument for the success of his business operations.
For residents and travelers in the area, such events highlight the deep-seated local traditions of merit-making and community engagement often associated with the Ya Mo monument.
