Prime Minister Anutin Calls for Closer Cooperation Between Interior Ministry and Police
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed the Ministry of Interior and the police to work in tandem to combat crime, emphasizing the use of unified data and stricter weapon inspections.
On August 13, 2026, at the Impact Challenger building in Muang Thong Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed a workshop focused on regional security policy. According to Khaosod Online, the Prime Minister instructed provincial governors and police commanders to operate as a 'dynamic duo,' utilizing a shared 'One Data' system to improve crime suppression efforts.
Key directives include the establishment of more rigorous checkpoints to search for illegal firearms. The Prime Minister emphasized that officials should focus on behavioral patterns rather than personal connections, explicitly stating that he would never personally call to request favors for individuals. This policy follows a series of workshops held over the past two months involving provincial governors and police commanders, which identified nine priority areas for cooperation, including cybercrime, land encroachment, money laundering, and the use of nominees.
For residents and travelers, this initiative signals a potential increase in police presence and more frequent vehicle or person inspections at checkpoints across the country. While the government aims to enhance public safety through these measures, the practical effectiveness of this inter-agency collaboration remains to be seen as the new operational protocols are implemented at the local level.
