Thai Government Reports 32,812 Excise Tax Violations in 10-Month Crackdown

According to a report from Khaosod Online on August 13, 2026, the Thai government has intensified its efforts to combat the smuggling and illegal sale of excise-taxed goods. Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploy-Talay Laksameesaengchan announced that during the first 10 months of the 2026 fiscal year, authorities recorded 32,812 cases of excise law violations.

Illicit tobacco and cigarettes were identified as the most frequently seized items, accounting for over 20,000 of these cases. The government estimates that these illegal activities have resulted in a loss of approximately 9 billion baht in state revenue. The crackdown, directed by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, involves the Excise Department working in coordination with national security agencies to intercept smuggling networks and protect legitimate business operators.
