Thai Government Issues Flood Alert for Northern and Northeastern Provinces

The Thai government has issued a weather alert for 12 provinces in the North and Northeast regions, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall between August 13 and 16, 2026. According to Khaosod Online, Deputy Government Spokesperson Captain Pattarasmi Thongsaluaykorn stated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation as a monsoon trough passes over the upper North and Laos, combined with a strong southwest monsoon.

Residents and travelers in affected areas—including Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Mukdahan, and Saraburi—are advised to exercise caution regarding flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing riverbanks, particularly in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes. The Royal Irrigation Department has been instructed to mobilize machinery, water pumps, and personnel to provide immediate assistance should flooding occur.
