Thailand’s BOI Reports 146 Billion Baht Investment in Smart and Green Industry Upgrades

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) announced that nearly 1,400 projects have applied for incentives to transition toward smart and sustainable manufacturing.

According to Khaosod Online, the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) is actively promoting a transition toward 'Smart & Green' industrial practices to enhance global competitiveness. BOI Secretary-General Narit Therdsteerasukdi reported that since the launch of the industrial upgrade measures in 2023 through the first half of 2026, 1,397 projects have applied for investment promotion, representing a total value of over 146 billion baht.

These initiatives focus on modernizing machinery, integrating automation and robotics, adopting digital technologies, and implementing energy-saving or renewable energy solutions. The goal is to help businesses align with international sustainability standards and improve production efficiency. Popular strategies among applicants include automating production lines and utilizing digital management systems to increase precision and reduce errors.

For residents and expatriates, this shift signifies a broader move toward a more technologically advanced and environmentally conscious industrial sector in Thailand. While these investments aim to boost the national economy and product quality, the long-term impact on local employment structures and the specific timeline for the full implementation of these 1,397 projects remain to be confirmed. The BOI continues to encourage both domestic and international operators to adopt these sustainable practices to remain relevant in the modern global market.
