Residents in Prachin Buri have reported severe water contamination in Khlong Bun Loet, prompting local authorities to investigate potential chemical leaks.
On August 12, 2026, residents of Ban Khlong Bun Loet in the Wang Tha Chang sub-district of Kabin Buri, Prachin Buri, reported a significant environmental issue. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the local canal has turned pitch black, developed a thick layer of foam, and is emitting a strong, pungent odor. The situation has caused alarm among the local community, as dead fish, including white fish and catfish, have been observed along the banks.
Village headman Udom Thongsaenkham stated that reports of the discolored, foul-smelling water began arriving on the evening of August 11. Residents are concerned that hazardous chemicals or toxic substances may have been discharged into the waterway, rendering the water unsafe for household use or livestock. Local officials, including village leaders and representatives from the Wang Tha Chang Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO), have been notified and have begun inspecting the site.
For residents and visitors in the area, this incident highlights a potential health and environmental hazard. It is advised to avoid contact with the water in Khlong Bun Loet until official testing is completed.
