Olympic Gold Medalist Somluck Kamsing Proposes Nabil Anane for Thailand’s 2028 Boxing Team

Somluck Kamsing, Thailand’s first Olympic gold medalist, has publicly confirmed his involvement in a proposal to transition ONE Championship fighter Nabil Anane into amateur boxing. Serving as an advisor to the Thailand Boxing Association, Somluck stated that he encouraged the association to contact Chatri Sityodtong, CEO of ONE Championship, to discuss the possibility of Nabil competing for a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

This initiative is reportedly being coordinated between the Thailand Boxing Association, ONE Championship, and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand. The goal is to leverage Nabil’s experience as a former ONE Championship bantamweight Muay Thai world champion to bolster Thailand’s chances in the Olympic boxing ring. Somluck also expressed personal interest in seeing other high-profile fighters, such as Rodtang Jitmuangnon, considered for similar transitions.

For residents and sports enthusiasts in Thailand, this development highlights a significant shift in how the national team identifies talent, moving toward cross-disciplinary recruitment.
