Thailand Promotes Agricultural Service Provider Model to Modernize Farming
The Office of Agricultural Economics is advancing the 'Agricultural Service Provider' (ASP) model to address labor shortages and aging demographics in Thailand's farming sector.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 12, 2026, the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE) is actively promoting the 'Agricultural Service Provider' (ASP) model. This initiative aims to modernize the Thai agricultural sector by facilitating easier access to advanced machinery for farmers, thereby reducing the reliance on manual labor as the workforce ages.
As of 2025, the average age of agricultural household heads in Thailand has reached 59.44 years, highlighting a significant demographic shift. The ASP model allows small-scale farmers to hire machinery services for various stages of production—including soil preparation, planting, drone-assisted maintenance, harvesting, and transportation—without the financial burden of purchasing equipment themselves. Simultaneously, it provides machine owners with opportunities to generate additional income by offering services within their local communities.
