Ministry of Agriculture Launches Task Force to Combat Illegal Agricultural Imports
Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture has established a new center to tackle illegal agricultural goods, reporting 146 cases and over 100 million baht in damages since April 2026.
The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has officially launched the 'Center for Suppression of Illegal Agricultural Products' (known by the Thai acronym 'Sor Por Ror'). According to a report by Prachachat Business, the center operates under the 'One Mission One Operation' framework, which integrates intelligence and data sharing to identify and dismantle smuggling networks.
Since April 2026, authorities have processed 146 cases related to illegal agricultural imports, with estimated damages exceeding 100 million baht. The initiative focuses on targeting the financial backers, distribution networks, and smuggling routes behind these illicit activities rather than just individual shipments.
For residents and travelers, this crackdown may lead to increased inspections at border crossings and logistics hubs. While the government aims to protect local farmers and ensure food safety standards, the long-term impact on the availability of certain imported goods remains to be seen.
