Ang Thong Model Highlights Success of Community Clean Energy Projects
The Ministry of Energy showcased solar-powered initiatives in Ang Thong province, demonstrating how renewable energy reduces production costs for local herbal enterprises.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Ang Thong Provincial Energy Office recently hosted a site visit to highlight the success of clean energy projects aimed at supporting grassroots economies. Led by Provincial Energy Officer Kongkiat Kittikhun, the initiative focuses on integrating renewable energy into local community enterprises to lower production costs and improve quality of life.
A key example is the Rammasak Agricultural Housewives Group in Pho Thong district. Supported by 1,295,000 THB from the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund, the project installed a 3.5-kilowatt solar water pumping system and an 8.00 x 20.80-meter solar drying facility. These systems allow the community group to efficiently process herbal ingredients for products ranging from pain-relief balms and compresses to shampoos and herbal beverages.
For residents and visitors, this model illustrates the government's ongoing efforts to decentralize energy production and support local agricultural manufacturing. While the project demonstrates immediate benefits for the Rammasak group, it remains to be confirmed how widely these specific solar-drying and pumping models will be scaled to other provinces across Thailand. The initiative serves as a practical case study for those interested in the intersection of sustainable technology and rural economic development.
