Waste Management Initiative Launched in Kaeng Krachan

According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the remote Pa Deng sub-district in Kaeng Krachan, Phetchaburi, has faced significant waste management challenges due to its mountainous terrain and location within the Kaeng Krachan National Park. Because standard municipal waste collection services cannot access the area, the community—which generates over two tons of waste daily—has historically relied on open-air burning, leading to environmental and health concerns.

To address this, the World Vision Foundation of Thailand has launched a pilot project focused on digital waste management and carbon footprint tracking. The initiative operates across three sites: the Pa Deng Sub-district Administrative Organization, the Naresuan Border Patrol Police School at Ban Huai Sok, and Ban Huai Kwang Jing School. The program emphasizes waste segregation at the source and integrates waste management education into school curricula. Pa Deng Wittaya School has emerged as a model for these efforts, with students actively promoting waste reduction practices within their families and the wider community.

For residents and visitors, this initiative represents a shift toward more sustainable living in a popular natural tourism region. While the project has successfully introduced systematic waste handling and educational awareness, it remains to be seen how these localized efforts will scale to meet the long-term waste disposal needs of the entire Kaeng Krachan area as tourism and community waste volumes continue to grow.
