Jasmine Prices Surge Ahead of Thailand's Mother's Day
Fresh flower prices in Sriracha have spiked significantly as demand for jasmine and marigolds increases for the upcoming National Mother's Day celebrations.
As Thailand approaches National Mother's Day on August 12, residents and visitors in Sriracha, Chonburi, are seeing a sharp increase in the cost of fresh flowers. According to a report by Khaosod Online, local vendors at the Sriracha Municipal Fresh Market have raised prices due to the high seasonal demand for traditional floral offerings.
Jasmine, the symbolic flower of Mother's Day, has seen the most dramatic price hike. Local florist shop owner 'Joy' reported that jasmine prices have climbed from their usual range of 300–400 baht per liter to approximately 1,000 baht per liter, which equates to roughly 1,600 baht per kilogram. Marigolds have also become more expensive, with individual flower prices rising from 1.50 baht to between 3 and 5 baht, depending on the size of the bloom.
For travelers and residents, this means that purchasing floral garlands or bouquets for the holiday will be significantly more costly than at other times of the year. While these price adjustments are common during major Thai holidays, the current surge reflects the specific market pressure of the Mother's Day period. It remains to be confirmed how long these elevated prices will persist following the conclusion of the holiday, or if supply chain factors beyond seasonal demand are contributing to the current market volatility.
