Shanghai Woman Discovers Stolen Handbag Listed for Sale Online
A woman in Shanghai unexpectedly repurchased her own stolen luxury handbag after finding it listed on an online marketplace.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, a woman identified as Li from Shanghai experienced a bizarre turn of events regarding a luxury handbag she purchased for 40,000 yuan (approximately 196,000 baht) in early 2025. After using the bag only once, Li left it near her home entrance, only to realize six months later that it had vanished. Despite having guests and staff in her home, she did not initially suspect theft.
Her friend later discovered a listing for an identical bag on an online platform. The seller claimed the item was imported from Japan. Driven by her attachment to the accessory, Li decided to purchase the bag back for 20,000 yuan (approximately 98,000 baht). Upon receiving the item, she confirmed it was indeed her missing property. The situation took a further turn when she discovered that the person responsible for the theft was someone within her own social circle who had acted deceptively throughout the ordeal.
For residents and travelers, this incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with high-value items in shared living spaces. While the identity of the thief has been linked to her inner circle, the full legal implications and the specific identity of the perpetrator remain to be confirmed by local authorities.
