Security Tightened at Montfort College Following Threat
Police in Chiang Mai have increased security at Montfort College after an anonymous threat to shoot students was sent via LINE.
On August 11, 2026, police from the Mae Ping Station in Chiang Mai deployed uniformed and plainclothes officers to Montfort College to ensure student safety. This action follows a threat received on August 10, where an unidentified individual sent a message via the LINE application threatening to use a firearm against students at the school.
In response to the incident, the school has implemented safety protocols and is working closely with law enforcement. While the situation at the school is currently reported as normal, some students were absent on August 11, and others were collected early by their parents.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the heightened sensitivity of local authorities regarding school security. The Chiang Mai Provincial Education Office is currently developing detailed safety measures tailored to the local context, which are expected to be presented to the Governor of Chiang Mai on August 18, 2026.
Authorities are actively investigating the source of the threatening message and continue to monitor the situation closely. While the immediate threat is being managed, the identity of the individual responsible remains unconfirmed, and the investigation is ongoing. Further updates are expected as the provincial office finalizes its integrated prevention strategy.
