Bangkok Partners with GISTDA to Enhance Disaster Management via Space Technology
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has signed an MOU with GISTDA to utilize space and geospatial technology for improved disaster response and urban environmental monitoring.
On August 11, 2026, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and GISTDA Director Pakorn Apaphant formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Bangkok City Hall. This collaboration aims to integrate space and geospatial technology into the city's disaster management framework, specifically targeting earthquake preparedness, PM2.5 dust mitigation, and flood management.
According to Khaosod Online, the initiative focuses on applying advanced research and services to address environmental and public health challenges within the urban landscape. By leveraging GISTDA’s satellite data and analytical capabilities, the BMA intends to improve its ability to monitor and respond to crises that affect the safety and well-being of city residents.
For residents and travelers, this partnership represents a long-term effort to modernize urban infrastructure and safety protocols.
