Thai SME Federation Proposes Reviving Provincial Committees to Boost Local Economies

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Federation of Thai SME recently presented a proposal to the government’s Trade and Service subcommittee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Sutumpun. The Federation advocates for the revival of provincial public-private committees (known as 'Kor-Ror') to serve as a bridge between local government, private sectors, and regional entrepreneurs.

This initiative aims to tailor economic development strategies to the specific potential of each province. Furthermore, the Federation has proposed a 10-billion-baht investment plan to develop 'man-made' tourist attractions across 50 secondary cities, with a budget allocation of 200 million baht per province.

For residents and travelers, this proposal suggests a potential shift toward more localized economic planning and the future development of new tourist destinations outside of major hubs. If implemented, these committees could significantly alter how regional infrastructure and tourism projects are prioritized. However, it remains to be confirmed whether the government will officially adopt the proposal to revive these provincial committees or approve the specific funding requested for the secondary city tourism initiative. As of now, the plan remains a proposal submitted for consideration by the relevant authorities.
