Thap Lan National Park is introducing a mandatory permit system for foraging starting August 13, 2026, to manage safety risks and wildlife encounters.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Thap Lan National Park has announced a new regulatory requirement for individuals entering the park to forage for mushrooms and other forest products. Starting August 13, 2026, all foragers must obtain an official permit to enter the protected area.
This decision follows a surge in the number of local residents and visitors from neighboring provinces—including Buriram, Khon Kaen, and Chaiyaphum—entering the park to collect wild mushrooms. Park Chief Prawattisat Chanthep expressed concerns regarding the safety of these individuals, citing the risk of getting lost or encountering wild animals, such as elephants and gaur, which have been frequently spotted near village boundaries.
The new permit system aims to ensure that those entering the forest are aware of the terrain, understand safety protocols, and practice sustainable foraging. By regulating the number of people allowed inside, authorities hope to mitigate the dangers associated with unauthorized forest entry.
