Digital Durian Market Initiative Launches to Modernize Thai Agriculture
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has launched the 'Digital Durian Market' project to integrate modern technology into the Thai agricultural sector.
On August 11, 2026, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society, presided over the opening of the 'Digital Durian Market: From Farm to Shelf' event. This initiative, part of the broader Digital Durian project, aims to transition Thai agriculture toward 'Modern Farm' standards by leveraging digital tools to enhance production quality and supply chain efficiency.
The event, held in collaboration with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) and CP Extra Public Company Limited, brought together government officials, private sector partners, and local durian farmers. According to the Ministry, the project functions as a 'back-office' support system, integrating efforts across various agencies to ensure that agricultural products meet high standards before reaching consumers.
For residents and travelers, this initiative highlights a significant push toward the digitalization of Thailand’s iconic fruit industry. By improving quality control and market access, the project aims to stabilize the supply chain for one of the country's most popular exports. While the event marks a formal launch, details regarding the specific digital platforms or retail locations where these 'Digital Durian' products will be exclusively available to the public remain to be confirmed by the participating agencies.
