Unexploded Anti-Tank Shell Discovered in Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary
The Second Army Area has cleared a 105mm anti-tank shell found embedded in a tree within the Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary in Buriram province.
On August 11, 2026, the Second Army Area of Thailand confirmed the successful removal of an unexploded 105mm anti-tank shell (TK-M490A1) discovered in the Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Non Din Daeng district of Buriram province. The discovery followed reports from local residents in Ban Lam Nang Rong on August 10, who spotted the object lodged in a tree.
According to the military, the site was formerly occupied by the Border Patrol Police Task Force 215, though the unit has since relocated. The Second Army Area dispatched an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team from Buriram to secure the area and neutralize the threat to public safety. The operation has been completed, and the site has been cleared.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the importance of exercising caution when exploring remote areas, particularly former military sites or zones near historical border patrol outposts. While the immediate danger has been addressed, visitors are reminded to avoid touching or approaching any suspicious metallic objects found in forested or restricted areas.
