Tragic Drowning of 12-Year-Old Boy in Chao Phraya River
A 12-year-old boy has died after drowning in the Chao Phraya River near Krung Thep Bridge following an alleged incident of horseplay.
On August 10, 2026, a tragic incident occurred near the Krung Thep Bridge in Bangkok, where a 12-year-old boy lost his life in the Chao Phraya River. According to Khaosod Online, local police were notified of the drowning at approximately 5:20 PM. Rescue divers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation recovered the boy’s body about 300 meters from the riverbank shortly after arriving at the scene.
A friend of the victim reported that they had been fishing near the bridge when they entered the water to retrieve a snagged fishing hook. The friend alleged that while they were in the shallow water, another group of acquaintances began playing in the area, and someone pushed them from behind. The friend stated that they struggled to stay afloat and attempted to hold onto the victim, but the victim eventually slipped away and disappeared beneath the surface. A construction worker and a passerby, identified as Mr. Chinawat, attempted to intervene and search for the boy but were unsuccessful.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the unpredictable and dangerous nature of the Chao Phraya River, particularly near bridge structures where currents and underwater terrain can change rapidly. While the friend’s account suggests foul play, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of those involved or determine if formal charges will be filed regarding the alleged pushing incident.
