Attempted Identity Fraud Foiled at Saraburi Municipality Office
Local officials in Saraburi intercepted an attempt by a Lao national to obtain a Thai national ID card using another person's damaged documentation.
On August 10, 2026, officials at the Saraburi Municipality office alerted local police after detecting a suspicious attempt to secure a Thai national identification card. According to Khaosod Online, a 45-year-old Thai man, identified as Mr. Phuping, accompanied a Lao woman and her 10-year-old daughter to the registration office, presenting a heavily damaged ID card with illegible details to request a replacement.
Registration staff became suspicious when the woman was unable to provide basic information regarding the identity on the card. Upon further verification, officials determined that the woman did not match the records associated with the identification number provided, suggesting an attempt to assume another person's identity. Mr. Phuping claimed he was merely assisting the woman so she could purchase bus tickets, denying any malicious intent. Police were subsequently called to the scene to investigate the matter further.
