Wild Elephant Attack Reported in Chonburi
A 60-year-old man was found dead near his home in Nong Yai, Chonburi, following an apparent encounter with a wild elephant.
On August 10, 2026, local authorities in Nong Yai, Chonburi, discovered the body of a 60-year-old man, identified as Direk, near the perimeter fence of his property. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the discovery was made after neighbors noticed the man had failed to participate in daily alms-giving rituals for two days and could not be reached by relatives.
Police and rescue teams arriving at the scene observed significant injuries, including a crushed skull, a fractured arm, and bruising on the neck. Evidence found at the site included an open umbrella and elephant footprints measuring approximately 34 to 43 centimeters in diameter, suggesting the involvement of a wild elephant.
For residents and travelers in rural Chonburi, this incident highlights the potential risks associated with wildlife proximity in agricultural or forested areas. While the presence of large mammals near human settlements is a known concern in certain Thai provinces, such fatal encounters remain rare.
