Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen Hosts Annual Mother’s Day Rice Planting Event
Over 5,000 participants gathered at Kasetsart University’s Kamphaeng Saen campus to celebrate Thai agricultural heritage and sustainable farming.
On Friday, August 7, 2026, Kasetsart University’s Kamphaeng Saen campus in Nakhon Pathom province held its annual 'Mother’s Day Rice Planting' project. According to Khaosod Online, the event was presided over by Nakhon Pathom Deputy Governor Attawut Puengniam and drew a crowd of over 5,000 people, including local officials, faculty, students, and community members.
The event featured traditional ceremonies, including a tribute to the rice goddess, followed by the manual transplanting of Riceberry seedlings across 13.5 rai of land. The initiative aims to preserve traditional Thai rice farming wisdom while integrating modern agricultural research and sustainable development practices.
For residents and visitors, this event highlights the deep cultural significance of rice cultivation in Thailand and the university's role in bridging traditional practices with technological innovation. It serves as a community-focused demonstration of sustainable agriculture. While the event successfully showcased these methods, it remains to be seen how the specific research outcomes from this year’s planting will be integrated into broader local farming practices in the coming seasons.
