Deaf and Mute Man Hailed as Hero After Saving Nine Lives in China Fire

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a 33-year-old Chinese man named Wei Zhili has been recognized for his heroic actions during a residential fire in Langzhong, Sichuan province. While riding his motorcycle home, Wei, who is deaf and mute, spotted flames engulfing a local community. Recognizing the danger to sleeping residents, he immediately turned back to the scene.

Unable to call out for help, Wei first attempted to alert neighbors by repeatedly honking his motorcycle horn and banging on objects with stones. When these efforts failed to draw immediate attention, he ran from door to door, pounding on them and gesturing toward the fire to ensure residents were aware of the emergency. His persistence successfully awakened nine people, allowing them to evacuate safely before the fire could spread further. One resident, Pu Weiguo, confirmed that he was asleep when the persistent knocking woke him, leading to his escape.
