Thailand Issues Landslide and Flash Flood Warning for Eight Provinces
The Department of Mineral Resources has issued a warning for eight provinces due to heavy rainfall, urging residents and volunteers to remain vigilant against potential landslides and flash floods.
On August 10, 2026, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued an urgent alert regarding the risk of landslides and flash floods. According to the report from Khaosod Online, eight provinces are currently identified as high-risk areas: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Kanchanaburi, and Prachin Buri.
The warning follows continuous heavy rainfall across these regions. The Thai Meteorological Department attributes the unstable weather to a monsoon trough passing through the upper northern region and Laos, combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
For travelers and residents, this situation poses a significant risk of sudden flooding and landslides, particularly in areas near hillsides, waterways, and low-lying regions. The DMR has instructed local volunteer networks to monitor the situation closely and prepare for potential emergencies. Authorities are tasked with responding promptly to any incidents to provide guidance and ensure public safety. While the current forecast highlights these specific provinces, weather conditions can change rapidly.
