Authorities Seize Illegal Cigarettes Worth 14.5 Million Baht in Nakhon Ratchasima
Customs officials and postal services have intercepted a large shipment of illicit cigarettes, highlighting risks of counterfeit goods and health hazards.
On August 9, 2026, officials from the Chong Chom Customs House in Surin province announced the seizure of over 15,000 cartons of illegal cigarettes. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Nakhon Ratchasima Postal Center, took place in late July 2026 after authorities inspected several suspicious parcels. The confiscated goods are valued at approximately 14.5 million baht and are currently being held for legal destruction.
Prasit Deejongcharoen, head of the Chong Chom Customs House, alongside postal officials Somkiat Khamphila and Navin Phromchim, led the operation. Authorities issued a public warning regarding the dangers of purchasing cigarettes online. They noted that illicit products often lack quality control, potentially containing mold or other harmful substances, and are frequently counterfeit.
For residents and travelers in Thailand, this seizure underscores the ongoing efforts to curb the distribution of unregulated tobacco products.
