Udon Thani Rail Infrastructure Upgrades for 2026 Horticultural Expo

According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Rail Transport (DRT) is accelerating infrastructure projects in Udon Thani to support the upcoming 2026 World Horticultural Expo. On August 9, 2026, DRT Director-General Pichet Kunadhamraks inspected the site to oversee plans for a temporary train stop and two new level crossings.

The project includes the construction of a 200-meter-long, 1.10-meter-high temporary platform designed to accommodate visitors arriving by train. Additionally, two level crossings will be established between Udon Thani and Na Phu stations to connect the expo grounds located on opposite sides of the railway tracks. One crossing will be 23 meters wide for project-specific vehicles, while the other will be 20 meters wide to facilitate pedestrian access for tourists.

For travelers and residents, these upgrades aim to streamline transit to the event site. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is currently in the bidding process for the construction, funded by the Udon Thani provincial budget. Construction is expected to commence by the end of August 2026 and conclude by October 2026. SRT staff will be stationed at the crossings to manage traffic and ensure safety using mobile barriers. While the timeline for completion is set for October, the final operational status of these facilities remains subject to the successful completion of the bidding and construction phases.
